Pancit Canton Noodles
This Noodles or pansit is the term for noodles in Filipino cuisine. Noodles were introduced to the Philippines by the Chinese and have since been included in the local cuisine. The term pancit is derived from the Hokkien Pian. Different types of noodles can be found in Filipino supermarkets that can then be cooked at home. Noodle dishes are also a standard dish in the local restaurants. Food companies specializing in noodles are often referred to as panciterias.
Nancy Reyes Lumen of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism writes that according to food tradition derived from Chinese culture, the noodles should be eaten on a birthday. They are therefore often served when celebrating birthdays and Chinese restaurants in the Philippines often have "birthday noodles" on their menus. But she warns that noodles represent longevity and good health and that they should not be broken down, which would have superstitious beliefs.
