Pancit Canton Noodles

Pancit Canton Noodles or pansit is the term for noodles in Filipino cuisine. Noodles were introduced to the Philippines by the Chinese and have been incorporated into the local cuisine ever since. The term pancit is derived from the Hokkien Pian. Various types of noodles can be found in Filipino supermarkets that can then be cooked at home. Noodle dishes are also a standard dish in local restaurants. Food companies that specialize in noodles are often referred to as panciterias.

Nancy Reyes Lumen of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism writes that, according to food lore derived from Chinese culture, the noodles should be eaten on a birthday. They are therefore often served when celebrating birthdays and Chinese restaurants in the Philippines often have "birthday noodles" listed on their menus. But she warns that noodles represent long life and good health and that they should not be broken down, this would have bad influences in the superstition.
