In 1521 the famous explorer Ferdinand Magellan sailed many islands in search of the "Spice Islands". His final destination was the warm tropical beaches of the Philippines. The natural herbs were present here in ample sizes and so was the "Bird's Eye red hot pepper". A small but robust type of pepper, with a very sharp taste. From then on, the pepper variety was nicknamed "Labuyo". Centuries have passed and the farmers at the foot of the perilous Mayon volcano are still working on legend and perfecting the growing conditions of the Bird's Eye red hot pepper variety. In addition to these Labuyo peppers, the normal long red and green peppers are also used in the Philippine kitchen.
In our range we have a number of items that contain the labuyo pepper.
